Gear up for the adventure of a lifetime as you conquer the mighty Himalayas on two wheels! The Great Himalayas Motorbike Tour 2025 takes you through breathtaking landscapes, from towering snow-capped peaks to serene high-altitude lakes and remote mountain villages.
Book your flights to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL), Leh. Upon arrival, the Traverse team will pick you up and take you to the hotel. The first day is for rest and acclimatization in Leh City.
You'll receive your bikes and take a short acclimatization ride through the hills, visiting ancient monasteries with stunning views. A detailed ride briefing will follow.
In the evening, explore Leh, relax at your hotel, or meet Ladakhi artisans preserving centuries-old craftsmanship.
The adventure begins with a 220 km ride from Leh to Kargil (6–7 hours) through stunning Himalayan landscapes. After breakfast, we ride smooth tarmac and mountain roads, stopping at Lamayuru Monastery, famed for its Moonland terrain, and Mulbekh Monastery, home to a 9-meter-tall Maitreya Buddha statue.
The journey offers breathtaking valleys, scenic passes, and cultural exploration. By evening, we reach Kargil, check into our hotel, and enjoy free time to relax, explore markets, or savor a Ladakhi meal.

Day 4: Kargil to Rangdum
The 130 km ride from Kargil to Rangdum (6–7 hours) takes us deep into Zanskar Valley’s wild beauty. After breakfast, we start through lush Suru Valley, with views of the towering Nun-Kun peaks.
The journey shifts from smooth roads to rugged off-road trails, passing Panikhar and Parkachik villages, vast plains, and glacial rivers. We pause at Rangdum Monastery for stunning views before reaching our guesthouse or campsite, where you can soak in the solitude of this remote Himalayan paradise.

Day 5: Rangdum to Padum
The 100 km ride from Rangdum to Padum (6–7 hours) is an exhilarating journey through Zanskar Valley. After breakfast, we ascend Pensi La Pass (4,400m), the gateway to Zanskar, with breathtaking views of the Drang Drung Glacier.
Descending into open valleys, we ride along the Zanskar River, passing remote villages like Abran and Tungri. By late afternoon, we reach Padum, Zanskar’s cultural hub, where you can explore Karsha Monastery, wander the town, or relax before the night’s rest.

Day 6 : Padum to Lamayuru
The 210 km ride from Padum to Lamayuru (8–10 hours) takes us through Ladakh’s most rugged and isolated terrains. After breakfast, we navigate rocky trails, river crossings, and ascend Singe La Pass (5,050m), offering breathtaking views of the Zanskar and Ladakh ranges.
Descending through Lingshed and Photoksar, we ride past deep gorges and Moonland formations before reaching Lamayuru, home to one of Ladakh’s oldest monasteries. After checking in, explore the monastery or relax in the serene surroundings before the night’s rest.

Day 7 : Lamayuru to Leh
The 125 km ride from Lamayuru to Leh (4–5 hours) offers thrilling mountain roads, historic monasteries, and iconic Ladakh landscapes. We start with a descent from Lamayuru’s Moonland, then cross Fotu La (4,108m) and Namika La (3,700m), enjoying stunning high-altitude views.
Riding along the Indus River, we stop at the Indus-Zanskar confluence, Alchi and Likir monasteries, Magnetic Hill, and Pathar Sahib Gurudwara. Arriving in Leh, we check into our stay, with the evening free to explore, relax, or enjoy a Ladakhi meal.

Day 8 : Leh to Nubra Valley
The 125 km ride from Leh to Nubra Valley (5–6 hours) takes us over Khardung La Pass (5,359m), one of the world’s highest motorable passes, offering breathtaking views of the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges.
Descending into Nubra, the landscape shifts to open valleys along the Shyok and Nubra rivers. We pass Ladakhi villages, visit Diskit’s 32-meter Maitreya Buddha, and reach Hunder, famous for its sand dunes and Bactrian camels. After checking in, enjoy a camel ride or relax before the night’s rest.

Day 9 : Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake
The 200 km ride from Nubra Valley to Pangong (Mann) (6–8 hours) follows the offbeat Shyok River route, mixing smooth roads, rugged trails, and river crossings. Towering cliffs and barren landscapes lead to Pangong’s stunning blue waters. At Mann, we settle into a cozy stay, with the evening free to unwind by the lake.

Day 10 : Pangong lake to Hanle
The 160 km ride from Pangong Lake to Hanle (6–7 hours) crosses remote Ladakhi landscapes. We traverse Merak, Chushul, Rezang La, and Tsaga La Pass (4,620m), riding through Changthang’s wildlife-rich plains. Reaching Hanle, home to a world-class observatory, we settle into a cozy homestay, with the evening free for exploring or stargazing.

Day 11 : Ride to the Umling la
The 180 km ride from Hanle to Photi La, Umling La, and Nerbole Pass (7–9 hours) is an extreme high-altitude adventure. We ascend Photi La (5,524m), then tackle the legendary Umling La (5,798m), the world’s highest motorable road. After crossing Nerbole Pass through Changthang’s vast plains, we return to Hanle for a well-earned rest under its star-lit sky.
The 250 km ride from Hanle to Leh (7–9 hours) takes you through Ladakh’s remote high-altitude plateaus, Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary, and the scenic Indus River route. Passing Nyoma, Mahe, and Chumathang’s hot springs, the journey blends adventure with stunning landscapes. As we near Leh, rugged mountains and monasteries emerge before we check into a cozy stay, ending the ride with a relaxed evening.
